The English Piano Trio has begun the season this autumn with a critically acclaimed programme for the Sarratt Festival of Music. The Trio's cellist, Justin Pearson, also a well known script writer, crafted an entertaining fictitious journey down the River Danube, narrated by actor Timothy West CBE. Interwoven into the script were a wealth of trio gems, from Haydn through to the present day. The group will be presenting this performance in other venues next season.
A highlight this October is the forthcoming concert in Oppenheim, Germany. This Rhineland city was the home of composer Johanna Senfter (1879 – 1961). A pupil of Max Reger, and with most of her compositions published by Schotts, her works are played internationally. In Great Britain she is currently featured in the Associated Board violin examination music. The English Piano Trio is giving the premiere of her piano trio at this concert, with a special publication for them of this work by Schotts. Also at this performance will be the two piano trios of Johann Christian Heinrich Rinck (1770 – 1846). Born in the same year as Beethoven, he was a composer and organist of note in his time. The works prove to be a fine and attractive addition to the trio repertoire. The English Piano Trio is grateful to the Rinck Society for requesting this performance.
